Technical Staff
Our VHC technical staff comprises pharmacy technicians, radiologic technologists and veterinary technicians.

Pharmacy Technicians
Pharmacy technicians work under the direction of a licensed pharmacist to dispense medication and provide information to clients. Their training prepares them to work with different prescription drugs, understand pharmacy operations and protocol, and abide by ethical standards.

VHC pharmacy technicians ensure that the hospital is stocked with all necessary medications and related items, fill medications for clients and prepare chemotherapy drugs, IV fluids and compounded drugs. Certified pharmacy technicians, designated by the letters CPhT, are technicians who have passed a national certification exam that tests their knowledge on topics such as pharmacology, pharmacy law and medication safety.

Radiologic Technologists
Radiologic technologists are the medical personnel who perform diagnostic imaging examinations and administer radiation therapy treatments. They are educated in anatomy, patient positioning, examination techniques, equipment protocols, radiation safety, radiation protection and basic patient care. They may specialize in a specific imaging technique such as computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, nuclear medicine, sonography or general radiography.

Registered radiologic technologists are designated by the letters RT after their name. They must complete at least two years of formal education in an accredited hospital-based program or a two- or four-year educational program at an academic institution in addition to passing a national certification examination. To remain registered, they must earn continuing education credits.

Veterinary Technicians
Veterinary technicians are essentially the registered nurses of veterinary medicine and surgery. Our hospital employs professional, licensed veterinary technicians who have attended a technical program or college. Many have earned bachelor’s degrees in addition to having passed a professional licensing examination.

Depending on where they went to school and were first licensed, you may see the letters RVT (registered veterinary technician), CVT (certified veterinary technician) or LVT (licensed veterinary technician) after their name. Some of our veterinary technicians have undergone additional training and passed a series of rigorous credentials criteria and examinations to become veterinary technician specialists (VTS). Their expertise far exceeds even that of a typical licensed technician in fields such as veterinary emergency and critical care, physical rehabilitation, oncology, cardiology, equine medicine or other specialized areas.
