Internal Medicine

Equine Internal MedicineThe equine internal medicine team evaluates all equids including horses, ponies, donkeys and mules. Based on results of a comprehensive physical examination and, in some cases, initial bloodwork, further recommendations are provided for additional diagnostic tests and treatment options as needed, on an individual basis. The team sees primary and referral patients from Missouri and adjacent states. Our team consists of three board-certified equine internal medicine specialists, one board-certified equine practitioner, veterinary residents and interns (specialists in training), licensed veterinary technicians, assistants and veterinary students, all here to provide around-the-clock care for your horse.

Emergency medical care is available to your equine companions 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Emergency situations that are commonly managed by our team included colic, respiratory distress, pneumonia, choke, collapse, diarrhea and sick foals. Aside from emergencies, the equine internal medicine team is dedicated to helping you, the equine owner, with routine wellness, nutrition and preventive care programs aimed at keeping your horse in health and performing at the highest level. Strengthening wellness strategies include vaccination programs to minimize the impact of infectious viral diseases and targeted deworming programs to safely control gastrointestinal parasites at the same time as not promoting parasite resistance to dewormer drugs.
