Asthma is a common respiratory disease found in cats, similar to the illness in people. Signs of asthma in cats can include cough, hacking up hairballs and wheezing. Asthma is not a curable condition, but there are ways to minimize damage to the lungs if it is recognized and treated early. We are conducting a research study at the University of Missouri Veterinary Health Center in which cats that have been definitively diagnosed with asthma can be enrolled in a clinical trial investigating a novel treatment (probiotic) for asthma. If other common respiratory diseases are ruled out and your cat is definitively diagnosed with asthma, it may be eligible for enrollment in our study.
