Designed to provide safe and gentle handling of livestock, our Food Animal Hospital offers a complete range of high-quality medical and surgical services. Our handling facilities include a rotating hydraulic foot table, a hydraulic chute and a calf/small ruminant chute. With these facilities, we have the capacity to see a wide array of cases, ranging from routine foot trims, vaccinations and castrations to sick animals that need more advanced diagnostic, medical or surgical procedures.
We can do standing or anesthetized surgery on farm animals of all sizes. We also offer 24-hour care for intensive cases. We have a sand stall available for down animals and an isolation stall for animals with a possible contagious disease.
Our Food Animal Hospital is run by a large animal internal medicine specialist who is trained in high-level medicine on all large animal species, including cattle, goats, sheep, camelids and pot-bellied pigs. Within the MU Veterinary Health Center, we also have access to specialists in other areas as needed, including large animal surgery, preventive medicine, reproduction, radiology, cardiology and oncology.
