The Small Animal Hospital at the MU Veterinary Health Center offers all levels of patient care, including community practice and specialty care. Our community practice cares for pets in the mid-Missouri region both when they are well (vaccinations, parasite prevention, spay/neuter services) and when they have routine illnesses and injuries. Please see our current small animal emergency service policies.
Our specialty care is provided by a wide range of board-certified veterinary specialists with ready access to the most sophisticated diagnostic testing procedures and the latest treatment options. Dogs and cats from throughout the Midwest are commonly referred to our specialists for the same type of advanced care you would want for any beloved family member. We are proud to offer world-class expertise and compassionate patient care in a friendly environment.
Appointment Information
The Small Animal Hospital receives regularly scheduled appointments from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Your appointment will be scheduled according to the service requested and procedure needed. Although you are welcome to schedule an appointment directly by calling 573-882-7821, for specialty referrals it is often best to ask your veterinarian to contact us first to discuss which specialty service can best meet your pet’s needs.
Please see our current small animal emergency service policies and call ahead to let us know you are on the way so we can be prepared to meet you on arrival. Call 573-882-7821 during business hours or 573-882-4589 on evenings and weekends.
A few tips may make the most of your regularly scheduled appointment:
- Take a few moments to consider what you believe to be your pet’s current medical issues. If there are several family members, you might want to discuss the problems before you come because sometimes one member of the family has a different impression of the illness.
- Note any changes in eating or drinking habits, any weight loss or gain, or changes in your pet’s urinary or bowel habits.
- Bring either the medications your pet is taking or a list of the names and doses of medications.
- If applicable, bring copies of medical records, laboratory tests and X-rays with you, or ask your veterinarian to fax them.
