Kinematic gait analysis is the study of the motion of the body, limbs, and joints that occurs during movement. This method of analysis provides a non-invasive means of collecting objective information on joint and limb motion from patients.
The Motion Laboratory at the MU Veterinary Health Center uses a Vicon Motion Analysis Camera System to capture kinematic information. This system is a passive marker-based kinematic camera system that tracks retroreflective markers placed on the skin at strategic locations to determine joint and limb motion during movement.
The Motion Laboratory at the MU Veterinary Health Center is one of the only location in the United States where three-dimensional joint motion can be obtained and evaluated. The use of kinematic analysis is valuable in the evaluation of patients with musculoskeletal and neurologic conditions and to monitor progress during the rehabilitation period and after therapy.
