Kinetic gait analysis is the study of forces created by and during movement. This method of analysis provides a non-invasive means of collecting objective information on the forces created between the patient’s foot and the ground during movement.
Kinetic analysis has been used in veterinary medicine to evaluate a multitude of clinical conditions seen in companion animals including lameness associated with orthopedic and musculoskeletal diseases and the effect of prescribed therapies on orthopedic diseases.
The Motion Laboratory at the MU Veterinary Health Center as the ability to perform kinetic analysis with either force plates or a pressure walkway system. This equipment allows rapid acquisition information regarding the force or “weight” that a dog applies to it’s limbs during motion.
