Information for Veterinarians

Information-for-Veterinarians-headerWe gladly accept oncology-related consultation calls for challenging cases that present to your hospital. Our consultation hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. These calls are of no cost to you or your client.

Although we strive to take consultation calls as they come in, we can’t guarantee we will always be available. In those cases, our call center will often ask you to provide some information about the case and phone numbers where we can reach you throughout the day or after hours. Our goal is to contact you within 24 hours of your request.

If you are referring a patient to us for evaluation, please fax (573-884-0705) or email (vmthrefdvm@missouri.edu) all pertinent records (bloodwork, biopsy/cytology reports, notes, etc.).

Chemotherapy Patients

We look forward to working with you to help us provide excellent care for our chemotherapy patients. We typically require bloodwork (minimum of a CBC) performed no more than 24 hours in advance of a patient receiving chemotherapy. We also require bloodwork to be performed after chemotherapy (dates are determined by chemotherapy treatment protocol). We always ask that a temperature be taken at the same time bloodwork is performed on patients receiving chemotherapy. This information can be critically important to these patients and can help determine if further treatment is indicated. Please complete our bloodwork form and fax it to 573-884-0705.

After a mutual patient has been seen by the Oncology Service, we will fax or email discharge instructions to you to keep you apprised of the patient’s progress. They will also include information about follow-up instructions we have given to the client and any special tests that may need to be performed until we see the patient again.

If you have any questions or concerns about a specific patient and its treatment protocol, do not hesitate to contact our call center at 573-882-7821.
